Meet Anita Moretti all the way from Osimo in Italy

Osimo, Italy

I have never had a clear idea of what I wanted to do with my life after school. I have always been a girl of many interests: from science and mathematics to literature and art, my head has always been everywhere, and I have never had a main passion to focus on.

My future has always seemed far away to me, and when I finally had to choose my subjects in high school I decided to take a scientific path.

As my studies progressed, however, I noticed that my interest in languages was becoming bigger and bigger, so I started studying on my own. Other than Italian, my native language, I am now fluent in English, and can understand and speak French as well as a little bit of Spanish.

I then decided to undertake an exchange year and jetted off from Italy to South Africa to prove myself and let my passion for other languages and cultures bloom.

Cape Town, South Africa

When my current high school here in Cape Town offered me the chance to spend time at a company for a job-shadowing experience of five days, I was determined to find a place that would help me understand if languages really are the right choice for my future.

Right now, my dream is to become proficient in as many languages as I can in order to broaden my employment opportunities in the field and, hopefully, see the world along the way. I would love to become an interpreter to help people from different countries build bridges between their cultures and languages. Maybe one day I will become an ambassador for my country or, who knows, perhaps I will work for a translation company just like Folio.

Maybe I will even start my own company.

In my short time at Folio I have already learnt many useful new skills that have helped me better understand the workings of this field. I had never considered subtitling as a part of my future career before, and to be honest, I wasn’t even aware of what it consisted of. Now, thanks to Folio, I have quite a bit of knowledge about it, and I discovered that I enjoy it more than I’d expected. I might even consider a career as a subtitler in my future.

I am very grateful that I had the chance to see for myself what this company is all about as it’s always difficult to tell from the outside. I have had the great opportunity to complete many tasks at Folio, such as checking sworn translations and doing video transcriptions.

Many thanks to my for-a-week colleagues, that have always put time and effort into teaching me new skills whenever I asked, letting me actually learn on a practical level.

At the end of the week, I can proudly say that I have plenty of new skills and have fallen even more in love with languages, so now I am quite sure what I want to do for a living!

Thanks again, Folio, for giving me a chance to discover myself.
