INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FRIENDSHIP

The United Nations’ International Day of Friendship is a movement to address many of the everyday challenges faced by humankind. Underlying this undertaking is the belief that solidarity of the human spirit in the form of friendship can combat the crises that undermine peace, development and social harmony across the world.

While many nations observe independent national days dedicated to encouraging and celebrating friendship between peoples, cultures, and communities, the UN’S Day of Friendship was first announced by the General Assembly in July of 2011. This was after active promotion by the World Friendship Crusade, an international organisation which has aimed to foster global peace since 1958.

International Day of Friendship highlights the important role of human connection in promoting harmony in our increasingly interconnected world, encouraging us to cultivate relationships that transcend geographic, cultural, and ideological boundaries. By commemorating this day, we are reminded of the power of human connection and the shared responsibility to nurture peace and understanding through our everyday interactions.

It’s a day to reflect on the friendships we cherish and to extend our hands in friendship to others!
